Caffeine-free vs caffeinated pre-workout: what to check
Decide whether you want caffeine in the product. Then read the complete ingredient list and the amount per labelled serving. Pre-workout is a broad category, and two tubs with similar names can have quite different formulas.
Check the exact caffeine statement
Use the product's explicit caffeine information. A formula described as pump-focused is not automatically caffeine-free, and the absence of an energy claim does not prove there is no caffeine. Check ingredients and any label warnings as well as the front of the tub.
If you want to avoid caffeine, choose a product explicitly labelled accordingly. If you are choosing a caffeinated formula, account for other caffeine-containing products you use. Follow the manufacturer's directions and warnings rather than combining serving suggestions from different tubs.
Compare equal amounts of powder
Some products describe more than one serving size. Identify the exact serving used for the nutrition and ingredient quantities before comparing it with another formula. A scoop is a measuring tool for its own product, not a standard unit across the shelf.
Read beyond the headline
- Which ingredients and amounts are clearly listed?
- What does one labelled serving contain?
- Is the product flavoured, and what liquid quantity does it require?
- Which warnings and suitability statements apply?
- Does the pack contain the number of servings you expected?
We do not use a stronger-sounding name as evidence that a formula will suit you better. Ingredient research also cannot be treated as a guarantee for every finished multi-ingredient product. If suitability is uncertain, get qualified advice before using it.
